Ferrop Hosphorus

Ferrop Hosphorus

Ferrophosphorus is an iron alloy composed primarily of iron and phosphorus, with a phosphorus content typically ranging from 15% to 25%, and the remainder being mainly iron with minor impurities. It appears as gray-black metal lumps or granules with a metallic luster on the fracture surface. It serves as an important additive in the steel and foundry industries for controlling phosphorus content to modify specific material properties.

Production Process

Ferrophosphorus is primarily obtained as a by-product during the production of yellow phosphorus in an electric arc furnace. When phosphate rock, coke, and silica are reduced at high temperatures to produce phosphorus vapor, the remaining molten material is ferrophosphorus. It is tapped, cooled, and crushed into the final product. It can also be produced by directly smelting phosphate rock and iron ore.

Key Features

Precise Phosphorus Control: The most direct and efficient carrier for adding phosphorus to steel or cast iron.

Performance Enhancement: Appropriate phosphorus content significantly improves atmospheric corrosion resistance in steel, machinability (in free-cutting steels), and also enhances the fluidity and wear resistance of cast iron components.

Cost-Effectiveness: As a by-product, it is often competitively priced.

High Yield: Phosphorus exhibits minimal loss during addition, resulting in a stable recovery rate.

Applications

Wear-Resistant Cast Iron: Used for wear-resistant parts like mill rolls and machine tool guideways to increase hardness and wear resistance.

Free-Cutting Steel: Added as an alloying element to improve machinability for automatic lathe processing.

Weathering Steel: Enhances the atmospheric corrosion resistance of steel.

FAQ

Q: How to select the appropriate grade of ferrophosphorus?

A: Choose based on application: FeP24 for high-wear parts like rollers; FeP21 for standard alloy steels. Selection depends on the target phosphorus content in the final steel product

Q: Any special storage and transportation precautions?

A: Store in a dry place. As some ferrophosphorus products might contain trace amounts of phosphine, ensure adequate ventilation. Transport as a general alloy product.
