Product Introduction

Overview & Characteristics

Manganese Metal is a crucial industrial metal, primarily produced via thermite reduction (silicothermic process) or electrolysis. This introduction focuses on the widely used lumpy or granular forms. It is an indispensable "strengthening agent" in the iron & steel and non-ferrous metals industries, significantly enhancing the mechanical properties of final materials.

Production Process

The primary method is the silicothermic process. Manganese ore (e.g., manganese oxide), reducing agents (e.g., ferrosilicon, aluminum), and fluxes (e.g., lime) are mixed and smelted at high temperatures in an electric furnace. Manganese oxides are reduced to metallic manganese by silicon, which is then separated from the slag, cast into ingots, and crushed into standard sizes.

Key Features

High Purity: Manganese content typically ranges from 93% to 99%, available in various grades as needed.

Strong Deoxidizing & Desulfurizing Power: Effectively removes oxygen and sulfur from molten steel, improving steel quality.

Excellent Alloying Effect: As an alloying element, it greatly enhances the strength, hardness, wear resistance, and toughness of steel.

Application Scenarios

Steel Industry: A key raw material for producing High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) steel, alloy structural steel, stainless steel (200 series), and wear-resistant steel (e.g., Hadfield steel ZGMn13).

Non-Ferrous Alloys: Used as an additive in aluminum-manganese and copper-manganese alloys to enhance their properties.

FAQ

Q: What's the main difference between Metallic Manganese and Electrolytic Manganese?

A: The key differences lie in the production method, form, and purity. Electrolytic Manganese has higher purity (>99.7%) and is brittle flakes, used in high-purity applications. Metallic Manganese (lump/grain) has slightly lower purity but offers better cost-effectiveness and is widely used in steelmaking.

Q: What are the storage precautions?

A: Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse. Avoid contact with acids and protect against moisture to prevent oxidation.
