Electrolytic Manganese

Electrolytic Manganese

Electrolytic Manganese is a high-purity metallic manganese produced through an electrolytic process. It appears as brittle flakes with a bright metallic luster. With a typical manganese content of over 99.7% and very low impurity levels, it is an essential additive in the production of steel, non-ferrous metals, and other high-performance alloys.

Production Process

The primary raw material is manganese ore, which is crushed and then leached with sulfuric acid to obtain a manganese sulfate solution. This solution undergoes processes including purification (removal of impurities like iron and heavy metals) and conditioning before being fed into electrolytic cells. Under direct current, manganese ions deposit on the cathode plates to form metallic manganese flakes. The final product is obtained after stripping, washing, drying, and packaging.

Key Features

High Purity: High manganese content (typically ≥99.7%) with very low levels of harmful impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus.

Effective Alloying: As an alloying element, it significantly enhances the hardness, strength, wear resistance, and toughness of steel.

Applications

Steel Industry: A key raw material for producing 200-series stainless steel and alloy steels (e.g., manganese steel), often used to substitute for some nickel.

Non-Ferrous Alloys: Used as an additive in aluminum-manganese and copper-manganese alloys to improve their properties.

FAQ

Q: What is the common packaging?

A: Typically packed in 1-ton jumbo bags with inner moisture-proof plastic liners. Smaller packages like 25kg/bag can be arranged as per client requirements.

Q: What are the common specifications?

A: The main form is flakes, with manganese content ranging from 99.5% to 99.9% to meet various customer needs.
