Ferro Titanium

Ferro Titanium

Ferro titanium is an iron alloy composed of titanium and iron, with titanium content typically ranging from 25% to 75%. It appears as silver-gray metallic lumps and serves as a critical alloy additive in steelmaking, significantly enhancing corrosion resistance, strength, and high-temperature performance. Common grades include low-titanium ferro titanium (Ti≥25%) and medium/high-titanium ferro titanium (Ti≥70%).

Production Process

Produced primarily via aluminothermic or silicothermic processes. Titanium concentrate (e.g., rutile) is mixed with reductants (aluminum or ferrosilicon) and iron sources, then subjected to high-temperature reduction in a furnace. The resulting molten ferro titanium is cast, cooled, and crushed into standard lump forms.

Key Features

Strong Deoxidation and Nitrogen Fixation: Titanium readily bonds with oxygen and nitrogen, purifying molten steel and reducing defects

Grain Refinement: Suppresses grain growth, improving toughness and weldability

Corrosion Resistance: Forms a dense oxide layer, enhancing resistance to acid/alkali corrosion

High Yield: Titanium recovery rate reaches 85%-95% with stable performance

Application Scenarios

Stainless Steelmaking: Used in Ti-stabilized grades (e.g., 321, 409) to prevent intergranular corrosion

High-Strength Steel: Improves strength and weather resistance in bridge and shipbuilding steel

Welding Materials: Added to electrode coatings to enhance weld quality

Foundry Industry: Used in heat-resistant cast iron and ductile iron to improve high-temperature properties

FAQ

Q: How to select the right grade?

A: Use FeTi30/40 for standard steels; FeTi70 is for stainless/special steels to fix carbon/nitrogen. Store in dry conditions with moisture-proof packaging

Q: Packaging and storage requirements?

A: Packed in 1000kg jumbo bags or 25kg moisture-proof bags. Store in dry conditions to prevent oxidation.
