Overview & Characteristics
Silicon chromium is a ferroalloy primarily composed of silicon, chromium, and iron, usually containing small amounts of impurities like carbon. It typically appears as lumps with a silvery-gray luster. The typical composition range is: chromium content not less than 30%, silicon content not less than 35%, with the remainder being iron and minor impurities.
Production Process
Using chromite (Cr₂O₃≥45%), silica (SiO₂≥97%) and coke as raw materials, mixed in proportion into a submerged arc furnace. Under 1650-1850℃, silicon preferentially reduces chromium in chromite via carbothermal reduction, forming an alloy with 18%-25% Si and 45%-55% Cr. After cooling, it is crushed into 5-50mm lumps, and delivered after passing ICP-AES testing, complying with GB/T 4009-2017.
Application Scenarios
Stainless steel smelting: Provides chromium and deoxidation for 304/316 stainless steel, reducing molten steel impurities;
Raw material for medium/low-carbon ferrochrome: Reducing agent for producing medium/low-carbon ferrochrome via silicothermic method;
Special steel: Used in heat-resistant steel and weathering steel to optimize mechanical properties.
