Precautions For Handling Cored Wire

Cored wire is a product used to improve steelmaking quality, and its varieties are increasing daily. When selecting products, pay attention to details to avoid purchasing inferior cored wire. So, what are the operational precautions for cored wire?

 

Adjust the feed speed appropriately. Calcium absorption rate is greatly affected by the feeding speed; too fast or too slow will reduce the absorption rate. When the core reaches a certain depth, it begins to melt. It is necessary to ensure the melting and dispersion of deep calcium bubbles while also withstanding the high static pressure of the molten steel, preventing premature and complete consumption of the calcium bubbles.

 

Floating on the surface of the steel. A reasonable dosage can improve calcium recovery. If the speed is too fast, on the one hand, a large amount of calcium vapor will be generated locally, causing violent agitation of the molten steel, and a large amount of calcium vapor will directly evaporate into the air. Conversely, too much calcium vapor will float to the surface and not dissolve, reducing the yield of rare earth silicon alloy. On the other hand, insufficient feeding depth will cause the calcium to rise to the surface of the molten steel before it is fully dissolved, resulting in waste.

 

Accurate wire feeding position. The feeding method also has a significant impact on calcium recovery. In the center of the downward-flowing molten steel, it should be kept as far away as possible from the argon blowing ring to allow Ca to become a gas or liquid. Since Ca is a gas or liquid, its amount decreases as it flows downward, thus prolonging its residence time in the molten steel and allowing it to be completely absorbed by the steel.
