Practical suggestions for extending the storage life of silicon-based ferroalloys

Optimize Storage Conditions

Equip the warehouse with dehumidifiers to control humidity below 45%.

Stacked materials should be elevated at least 20 cm to prevent them from absorbing moisture from the ground.

Sampling and testing should be conducted regularly (check surface agglomeration quarterly).

Emergency Treatment Plan

For damp silicon-based ferroalloys:

Some properties can be restored through low-temperature drying at 150°C.

Surface oxides need to be mechanically removed by sieving, with a loss rate of approximately 5-15%.

Professional Data Source: According to the alloy storage guidelines issued by the China Metallurgical Industry Standardization Institute, uncontaminated silicon-based ferroalloys can retain more than 90% of their strength after 10 years of storage under specified conditions.
